ENFIELD, N.C. — Authorities are investigating a frightening multiple-shooting incident that occurred early Sunday morning in the Freedom Street area of Enfield, leaving residents shaken but thankful no one was seriously injured.
According to officials, the shooting happened at approximately 3:30 a.m. when at least two individuals armed with handguns discharged multiple rounds into an occupied residence and a parked vehicle. Law enforcement sources say the gunfire appeared to come from more than one location, suggesting a coordinated attack.
Residents in the area reported waking to the sound of rapid gunfire. One neighbor, who asked not to be identified, recalled the terrifying moment: “I just heard a barrage of shots—pop, pop, pop. It was like it wouldn’t stop. I hit the floor and prayed nobody in that house got hurt.”
The Enfield Police Department and the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office quickly responded to multiple 911 calls reporting shots fired. Upon arrival, officers secured the area, documented the scene, and collected physical evidence, including shell casings scattered near the residence and roadway. Investigators confirmed that the residence was occupied at the time of the attack, heightening the seriousness of the case.
Authorities have not released information on potential suspects but confirmed that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible. “We want to make it clear—this kind of reckless violence will not be tolerated in our community,” an Enfield Police spokesperson said in a statement. “Our detectives are working closely with the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office to follow up on leads, review surveillance footage, and gather all evidence necessary to bring the perpetrators to justice.”
No injuries have been reported as of Sunday afternoon. Officials stressed that the investigation is ongoing and asked community members to come forward with any information that could assist law enforcement. Tips can be shared anonymously through local hotlines.
