WALLER COUNTY, Texas — The Waller County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that suspects connected to the September 21 shooting near the Ameripark youth baseball field are now in custody. Each has been charged with Deadly Conduct, a felony offense, underscoring the serious danger posed when firearms are discharged in a public setting.
While the arrests mark a step forward in the investigation, the community remains shaken — and some parents are demanding answers about the law enforcement response on the day of the incident.
Parents Question Police Response
Several parents at the tournament voiced concerns that law enforcement did not act swiftly enough, despite multiple calls made before the coach was struck by gunfire.
One parent noted that police had been called at least three times before 9:45 a.m., yet no decisive action was taken. The same parent questioned why the tournament director, who also reportedly contacted authorities, did not notify parents directly or halt the games to protect families until the situation was contained.
“Why didn’t they swarm the place? Only five or six cruisers pulled up. None were running around looking for shooters,” another frustrated parent asked.
Parents Stepped In Before Police Arrived
Ashley Borden Solano, whose husband was at the tournament, described how parents themselves intervened to stop the threat before officers could respond.
“My husband and another dad ran through the empty lots and found the guys to get them to stop shooting. There were five men actually. Two took a bunch of guns with them and drove off before police got there,” Solano said.
She also claimed that authorities have not publicly reported on the two individuals who allegedly fled the scene with firearms.
According to Solano, the limited police presence may have been because officers — along with a game warden — were already stationed on the property from which the shots were fired.
Ongoing Investigation
The Waller County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains active and ongoing, and more details will be shared as they become available. Officials also thanked the public for its cooperation and acknowledged the work of multiple law enforcement partners.
Meanwhile, parents and community members say they will continue pressing for clarity about how the situation was handled and whether steps could have been taken earlier to prevent the shooting.
