BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — The Bloomington community is mourning the tragic loss of 24-year-old Jessica J. Wimp, who died early Tuesday morning after her vehicle crashed into a residence on the city’s west side.
According to the Bloomington Police Department, the accident occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. on September 23, 2025, in the 400 block of West Graham Street. Officers responded to reports of a vehicle that had left the roadway and struck a home. The Bloomington Fire Department was also dispatched to assist with the emergency response.
When first responders arrived, they secured the crash site while firefighters worked to extricate the driver from the wreckage. Despite their efforts, Wimp, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene by the McLean County Coroner’s Office.
Investigation Underway
Preliminary findings indicate the vehicle was traveling northbound on Lee Street when, for reasons still unknown, it veered off the road. The car collided with a tree before striking a residence and finally coming to a stop.
No other individuals inside the home were reported injured. The full extent of property damage caused by the crash is still being assessed. Due to the severity of the collision, the McLean County Accident Reconstruction Team was called in to assist with the investigation.
Coroner’s Report
McLean County Coroner Dr. Kathleen Yoder released the victim’s identity later Tuesday. She confirmed that Jessica J. Wimp, 24, of Bloomington, died from multiple blunt-force injuries sustained in the collision. Toxicology testing is pending as part of the ongoing investigation.
“On behalf of the men and women of the Bloomington Police Department, we extend our condolences to the grieving family and friends,” said Chief Jamal Simington in a statement. “Traffic collisions negatively impact families for generations, and employing safe driving habits at all times is imperative to saving lives. Before putting a vehicle in motion, pledge to drive defensively and safely on every trip. Each of us has a tremendous responsibility to one another as we navigate the roadways in this community.”
