SAGINAW, MI — A 32-year-old woman has been charged with multiple felonies after allegedly shooting her boyfriend several times during an early morning altercation on Sunday, September 21, in Saginaw.
Authorities say Danisha Sanders, 32, called 911 around 3:30 a.m. after firing multiple rounds at a 42-year-old man believed to be her boyfriend. According to prosecutors, dispatchers could hear the victim crying in the background as Sanders reportedly mocked him.
Police confirmed the man sustained six gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition and continues to fight for his life.
Investigators stated that Sanders admitted to opening fire on the man, telling officers that he had been “antagonizing her.” She further claimed that had she not run out of ammunition, she would have shot him even more. Officers later recovered the firearm used in the shooting, which was registered in Sanders’ name.
Law enforcement officials reported that even while being taken into custody, Sanders expressed little remorse, repeating her frustration about running out of bullets.
Sanders’ mother, Evelyn, took to Facebook following her daughter’s arrest, saying her daughter had been caught in an abusive relationship for years. She characterized the incident as self-defense and has since asked the public for help in raising funds to hire a defense attorney and cover bond expenses.
On Tuesday, September 23, Sanders appeared in Saginaw County Court where she was formally charged with assault with intent to murder, a life offense under Michigan law. Prosecutors argued for a $500,000 bond, citing that Sanders posed a danger to the community. The presiding judge granted the request.
Sanders is currently being held in custody. Her next court appearance has been scheduled for October 14.
The case has drawn significant attention in the Saginaw community, with opinions divided between those who see Sanders as a potential victim of long-term abuse and others who view the shooting as an act of extreme violence. Authorities emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing.
