It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Gerald Joseph “Joe” Braker, age 91, of Evansville, on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and community member, Gerald lived a life defined by faith, family, and service.

Early Life and Education

Gerald was born on November 30, 1933, in Evansville, Indiana, to the late Mary (Coomes) and August Braker. He graduated from Memorial High School before earning an associate degree in electronics from Ivy Tech Community College. His education paved the way for a successful career with Whirlpool, where he worked as a tool and gauge inspector until his retirement.

Faith and Community Service

A lifelong Catholic, Gerald was a faithful member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church. His devotion to service extended well beyond Sunday worship. He dedicated much of his time to volunteering with the St. Vincent DePaul Society and assisting at the St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry, where he was known for his compassion and willingness to help those in need.

Personal Passions

Outside of his professional and volunteer work, Gerald had a love for carpentry. He was a skilled craftsman who enjoyed working with his hands, building and creating with care. He also found joy in cheering for Notre Dame Football, following the Fighting Irish with loyalty throughout his life.

Family Above All

Gerald’s greatest source of pride and happiness was his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Cleo (Adams) Braker, and their children:

  • Randy (Priscilla) Braker
  • Cathy Folz
  • Cindy (Ron) McLaughlin
  • Daniel Braker
  • Constance (Steve) Jennings

His legacy continues through his 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, who brought him immeasurable joy. He is also survived by his sister, Nancy (Larry) Hayden, his brother, Jim (Charlene) Braker, and many nieces and nephews.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Ronald Braker and Robert Braker; and his son-in-law, Frederick R. Folz.

Services to Honor His Life

Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Gerald’s life:

  • Visitation: Thursday, October 2, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave., Evansville.
  • Visitation (continued): Friday, October 3, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 2301 N. Stockwell Rd., Evansville.
  • Mass of Christian Burial: Friday, October 3, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, officiated by Father Zach Etienne.
  • Entombment: St. Joseph Cemetery.

Gerald Joseph “Joe” Braker will be remembered for his unwavering faith, selfless service, and the deep love he had for his family. His presence will be missed by many, but his legacy will live on in the values he instilled in his children, the love he shared with his grandchildren, and the countless lives he touched through his acts of kindness.
