Medical Lake, WA — The Medical Lake community and the family of Colleen Hendrickson Bass are grappling with an unimaginable loss following the tragic events outside Eastern State Hospital on Saturday. Colleen, a dedicated employee and cherished community member, passed away during a violent incident that has left neighbors, colleagues, and loved ones in deep sorrow.

The Incident

According to the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office, the events began late Saturday when a suspect allegedly started a fire in a field near a local Medical Lake grocery store. The suspect then entered a nearby home with a rifle and discharged multiple rounds. Following this, law enforcement reported that the individual arrived at Eastern State Hospital, where Colleen Hendrickson Bass, who worked as a guard at the facility, was fatally injured in the hospital parking lot.

A deputy on scene acted swiftly, and the suspect was neutralized. Authorities continue to investigate the sequence of events and have not released any further information about the suspect’s identity or motive.
