GLETON, Texas — October 4, 2025

Authorities in Brazoria County are investigating a devastating family tragedy after an early morning shooting left two children dead and two others critically injured on Saturday.

The Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) reported that deputies were dispatched shortly before 5:00 a.m. after receiving a desperate 911 call from a woman who claimed her son had attempted to kill her and that multiple children were in danger.

When deputies arrived at a gas station on State Highway 288B near FM 521, they discovered the woman and four young children inside a vehicle. All four children had been shot.

A 13-year-old boy and a 4-year-old girl were pronounced dead at the scene. An 8-year-old and a 9-year-old, both suffering from critical gunshot wounds, were immediately airlifted to a Houston-area trauma hospital. By Saturday afternoon, authorities confirmed that the surviving children were expected to recover.

Mother Identified as Suspected Shooter

Although initial reports suggested that one of the children may have been responsible for the shooting, investigators later determined that the children’s mother was the alleged shooter. She was taken into custody at the scene.

Officials have not released her name, citing the ongoing investigation and the need to notify extended family members.

Sheriff’s deputies believe the actual shooting occurred elsewhere and that the mother drove to the gas station afterward. Multiple agencies, including crime scene investigators, are working to confirm the exact location and gather evidence.

No Ongoing Threat to the Public

BCSO reassured the community that all individuals involved have been accounted for and that there is no current threat to public safety.

“This is a heartbreaking situation that no community ever wants to face,” a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office said. “Our thoughts are with the surviving children, the extended family, and the first responders who arrived on scene.”

Community Grieves

The news has left residents of Angleton and Brazoria County stunned and grieving. Many expressed sorrow at the violent loss of two young lives and concern for the children who remain hospitalized.

Local churches and crisis response teams are expected to provide counseling and support for affected families and community members in the days ahead.

Domestic Violence Concerns

The tragedy adds to growing concerns about family violence across Texas. Law enforcement officials urged families in crisis to seek help before situations escalate to violence, pointing to hotlines, shelters, and support services available statewide.

As of Saturday evening, the investigation remained active, and charges against the mother are pending. Authorities plan to release additional details as they become available.
