Tulsa, OK – October 18, 2025 – Tulsa Police have identified and arrested Dwight Lee Busby II in connection with the fatal shooting of Austin Williams at a local park on Friday evening. The incident occurred at 3825 W. 53rd Pl. S., leaving the community reeling and mourning the loss of a young life.
Police responded to reports of gunfire on October 17 and found Williams had been shot multiple times. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene. The shocking attack at a public park has left residents, families, and friends grappling with grief and calling for increased safety measures.
Investigators quickly traced the attack to Dwight Lee Busby II through video surveillance and witness accounts. Evidence showed that Busby arrived at the park wearing a bright blue sweatshirt, dark blue athletic pants, black tennis shoes, a black do-rag, and a white mask. He allegedly approached Williams, fired multiple shots, and fled northwest on foot to a white Chevrolet Tahoe parked nearby.
Automated license plate recognition cameras tracked the vehicle to Bristow, OK, allowing police to execute search warrants at Busby’s residence and on the vehicle the following day. Officers recovered clothing matching the suspect’s description and a firearm consistent with ballistic evidence from the crime scene.
Busby was taken into custody, advised of his Miranda rights, and confessed to the shooting. Authorities report that he cited a personal grievance dating back two years involving laced marijuana as his motive.
He has been booked on First-Degree Murder, marking Tulsa’s 40th homicide of the year. Officials emphasize that this is an arrest, not a conviction, and the case will proceed through the courts.
