Baton Rouge Police Identify Victim in Deadly Shooting Outside McDonald’s on Airline Highway
BATON ROUGE, La. – A routine Saturday morning turned tragic in Baton Rouge when a young man was fatally shot outside a McDonald’s restaurant on Airline Highway, near Prescott Road. The Baton Rouge Police Department (BRPD) has identified the victim as 22-year-old Sedrick Taylor.
Authorities say the shooting happened around 11:15 a.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2025, in the 6900 block of Airline Highway. When officers arrived on the scene, they found Taylor suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the parking lot area of the McDonald’s restaurant. Despite life-saving efforts by emergency responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detectives believe the incident was connected to a narcotics transaction, though the exact details leading up to the gunfire remain under investigation. Police are currently reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses and interviewing witnesses who were in the area at the time.
“This appears to be a targeted incident rather than a random act of violence,” said a BRPD spokesperson. “We are following several leads, and we encourage anyone with information to contact investigators.”
Several witnesses told officers they heard multiple gunshots ring out before seeing two individuals flee the scene in what appeared to be a dark-colored vehicle heading northbound on Airline Highway. Detectives are now working to identify and locate those individuals for questioning.
The McDonald’s and nearby businesses were briefly closed as crime scene investigators processed the area, marking bullet casings and collecting evidence throughout the parking lot and adjacent roadway.
Residents and business owners in the area expressed shock and sadness over the incident. “It’s scary,” said one employee who works across the street. “This is a busy stretch of Airline. You never think something like this could happen in the middle of the day.”
Friends and relatives of Sedrick Taylor are mourning the sudden loss of a young life cut short. On social media, tributes have begun pouring in from those who knew him, remembering Taylor as a quiet and kindhearted person who “didn’t deserve what happened.”
The Baton Rouge Police Department’s Homicide Division is continuing its investigation. No arrests or suspect descriptions have been released as of Sunday morning.
