BRIDGEPORT, Conn. — Authorities have identified the woman found unresponsive on a Bridgeport street Tuesday night as 24-year-old Evelyn Rayo-Mairena, of Bridgeport. Her passing has left the community in grief as detectives work to uncover what led to the tragic discovery.

According to the Bridgeport Police Department, officers responded around 9:30 p.m. to a report of an unattended child on the front porch of a home in the 200 block of Black Rock Avenue. When they arrived, they located the child and soon discovered a woman lying on the street nearby, suffering from severe injuries.

Emergency responders immediately provided medical aid, and Rayo-Mairena was transported to St. Vincent’s Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

Police confirmed that the child was taken to Bridgeport Hospital for an evaluation. Authorities have not released further details about the child’s condition or any connection between the child and Rayo-Mairena.

The case is being treated as an active homicide investigation, with the Bridgeport Police Homicide Unit, led by Detective Elizabeth Santora, taking the lead. Investigators are collecting evidence, speaking with witnesses, and reviewing nearby surveillance footage to piece together what happened.

“This is a deeply tragic situation, and our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of Ms. Rayo-Mairena,” said a Bridgeport Police spokesperson. “We are committed to finding out exactly what occurred and ensuring accountability.”

Neighbors described the scene as distressing and out of character for the usually quiet area. “It’s heartbreaking,” said one resident. “We’ve never experienced something like this here. Everyone is shaken and hoping for answers.”

Police are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Elizabeth Santora at (203) 581-5291. Investigators say that even the smallest detail could help bring clarity to the case.

As the investigation continues, the Bridgeport community is coming together to mourn the loss of a young woman remembered for her warmth and gentle spirit.
