Troopers attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation along the North Dallas Tollway near Keller Springs Boulevard, but the vehicle fled before crashing on the southbound lanes of Dallas Parkway near Warren Parkway.
When officers searched the area, Kneeland was later found deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities noted that information obtained during the search indicated that Kneeland had expressed signs of emotional distress prior to the incident.
