Chesterfield County, Virginia — The Chesterfield Fire and EMS Department is heartbroken to announce the passing of Firefighter Sammy Ershidat, a dedicated public servant who was assigned to Engine 211 “C” Shift at Fire Station 11 on Iron Bridge Road. Firefighter Ershidat tragically passed away on Friday evening from injuries sustained in a vehicle collision while off duty.
Firefighter Ershidat was a nearly two-year veteran of Chesterfield Fire and EMS (CFEMS), having proudly graduated from Recruit School 68 in 2024. In his short time with the department, he quickly earned the respect and admiration of his colleagues and the community he served. Known for his professionalism, compassion, and enthusiasm, Ershidat embodied the spirit of public service and was deeply committed to helping others.
Chief Edward L. Senter, Jr. shared heartfelt words following the loss:
“We are all saddened by the loss of Firefighter Sammy Ershidat, who was taken from us as his career as a firefighter had just begun. He proudly served the residents of Dale while assigned to one of the busiest stations in Chesterfield County. I ask that the community lift up Firefighter Ershidat’s family and co-workers in prayer during this very difficult time.”
Firefighter Ershidat’s dedication to his duty and his community left a lasting impression on those who worked alongside him. Fellow firefighters describe him as passionate, humble, and eager to learn — a young man who truly loved his calling and the brotherhood of the fire service.
The department has pledged to continue providing full support to Firefighter Ershidat’s family and his brothers and sisters in uniform as they mourn his loss.
