WASHINGTON COUNTY, Pa. — The communities of Wheeling and Glen Dale, West Virginia, are grieving after a tragic head-on collision on Interstate 70 claimed the lives of two beloved individuals — 59-year-old Donna Havens and 69-year-old William Magers — on Friday evening, November 7, 2025.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police, the devastating crash occurred around 5 p.m. near mile marker 5, close to the Claysville exit. A Hyundai sedan traveling eastbound reportedly crossed the grass median and entered the westbound lanes, colliding head-on with a Ford SUV.
Both drivers, identified as Havens and Magers, were tragically pronounced deceased at the scene. First responders and medical teams made every effort to save them, but the impact was too severe.
A female passenger in the SUV was airlifted to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, while a young passenger in the backseat initially appeared uninjured. However, the child’s mother later confirmed that he did, in fact, sustain injuries in the accident.
Prior to the collision, several motorists had reported an eastbound vehicle driving erratically on I-70. Investigators are working to determine whether that vehicle was the same Hyundai involved in the fatal crash.
The crash led to the closure of both directions of I-70 for several hours as emergency crews, forensic units, and collision reconstruction experts responded to the scene. The roadway was later reopened late Friday night once investigations and cleanup were complete.
Authorities continue to examine possible contributing factors, including speed, driver condition, and road conditions, as they seek to understand what caused this heartbreaking tragedy.
