A medical transport helicopter crashed in Madison County, Mississippi, killing 3 people.
A medical transport aircraft crashed Monday afternoon in Madison County, Mississippi, killing three persons, the University of Mississippi Medical Center said.
According to a statement from the Federal Aviation Authority, the Eurocopter EC-135 helicopter crashed into a wooded area at 1:15 p.m. local time.
Med-Trans owned and ran it, according to UMMC.
The victims were two crew members and a pilot, according to UMMC, which also confirmed that there were no patients on board. The medical hospital claimed they were reaching out to their relatives.
“Earlier this afternoon, AirCare 3, our Columbus-based medical transport helicopter, had an accident in rural Madison County, north of the Reservoir,” UMMC stated in a Facebook post. “Sadly, there were no survivors.”
The National Transportation Safety Board announced that it was “launching a go-team to investigate” beginning Tuesday, while the FAA was conducting an investigation in the immediate aftermath of the incident.
“It’s a tragic reminder of the risks Mississippi’s first responders take every day to keep us safe,” said Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves in a statement posted on X. The sacrifice made by these warriors will always be remembered by our state.
