Ellie Knight UGA Obituary & Death Notice: Remembering a Beloved University of Georgia Alumna Who Passed Away in Athens, Georgia
Athens, GA – The University of Georgia community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Eleanor “Ellie” Hart Knight, a beloved UGA alumna who passed away on April 2, 2025, at the age of 24. Her death has left a profound void not only in the hearts of her family and friends but also in the lives of those she inspired during her time in Athens and beyond.
Born on April 21, 2000, Ellie was a bright light in every space she entered. Known for her intelligence, compassion, creativity, and joyful spirit, she made a lasting impression on classmates, professors, and colleagues alike. She graduated from the University of Georgia with honors, where she pursued her passion for communication, event planning, and design. While at UGA, she was actively involved in student life, building strong relationships that would carry her into her professional career.
Following graduation, Ellie found her calling in the events industry. She served as a Planning, Design, and Media Assistant at Whitewood Events, a well-respected event design company based in Athens. Her work quickly stood out for its creativity, elegance, and attention to detail. Ellie was more than just a planner—she was a storyteller, curating meaningful experiences and memories for others during some of their most treasured life moments. Colleagues and clients alike praised her for her professionalism, warmth, and visionary ideas.
But beyond her professional accomplishments, Ellie’s impact was most deeply felt in her personal relationships. She was a loyal friend, a loving daughter, and a kind-hearted soul who always made time for others. Whether it was offering a comforting word, organizing a thoughtful surprise for a friend, or simply showing up when someone needed her, Ellie had a way of making people feel seen, supported, and loved.
Tragically, Ellie’s life was cut short after a brave and private battle with ovarian cancer. Despite the physical and emotional toll of her illness, she remained a pillar of strength and grace. Even in her final days, she was described as smiling through the pain, encouraging others, and continuing to dream about the future. Her courage in the face of such adversity left an indelible impression on all who witnessed it.
Ellie’s family has requested privacy during this time as they grieve the unimaginable loss of their beloved daughter and sister. However, they are grateful for the overwhelming support from friends, former classmates, and the UGA community, who have come together to honor her memory.
A memorial service celebrating Ellie’s life will be held on Friday, April 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Warner Robins. She will be laid to rest privately in a family ceremony. Arrangements are being handled by McCullough Funeral Home and Crematory, and condolences may be shared with the family through their official website.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to be made in Ellie’s memory to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance (OCRA) or to a scholarship fund being established in her name at the University of Georgia to support young women pursuing careers in communications and event planning.
Ellie Knight’s legacy is one of love, resilience, and brilliance. Though her time on this earth was far too short, the beauty she brought into the world—and the lives she touched—will never be forgotten. The UGA flag flies a little lower today, in memory of one of its brightest stars.
