Devastating Crash in Sioux City Claims Lives of Two Norfolk Residents, Strikes Same Home for the Second Time This Year, Raising Concerns Over Road Safety
Sioux City, IA — April 21, 2025 — A tragic accident in Sioux City has left two people dead and another injured after a speeding SUV crashed into a home on Transit Avenue early Saturday morning. The incident marks the second time this year the same home has been struck by a vehicle, raising concerns among neighbors and the homeowner about ongoing road safety in the area.
The crash occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. on April 19, near the 3200 block of Transit Avenue, a residential area in Sioux City’s Morningside neighborhood. According to the Sioux City Police Department, a 2014 Infiniti QX80 SUV carrying three occupants was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control, slamming into a utility pole and then into the front porch of a home.
Two Lives Lost, One Survivor
Authorities confirmed that two of the vehicle’s occupants, both from Norfolk, Nebraska, were killed in the collision. One passenger died at the scene, while the second succumbed to injuries after being transported to a nearby hospital. Their identities have not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.
The driver survived the crash and was hospitalized with undisclosed injuries. No charges have been filed at this time as the investigation continues.
Same Home Hit Twice This Year
A startling detail has emerged from the incident — the home struck during Saturday’s crash is the same residence that was damaged in a fatal accident just two months earlier. In February, 22-year-old Brady Locke of Sioux City was killed after his vehicle crashed into the same house in a similar high-speed, single-vehicle accident.
“I can’t believe it’s happened again,” the homeowner said. “It’s terrifying. You never think your house is going to be hit by a car once, let alone twice in just a few weeks. Something needs to be done before someone inside gets hurt.”
Fortunately, no one inside the home was injured in either incident. However, the repeated collisions have left the homeowner shaken and residents calling for increased safety measures on Transit Avenue.
Road Closures and Power Outages
The crash also damaged a major utility pole, prompting a response from MidAmerican Energy crews, who were dispatched to the scene to perform repairs. Officials stated that Transit Avenue between South Alice and South Paxton streets would remain closed into the mid-to-late afternoon on Saturday as workers replaced the pole and restored power.
“We are thankful that no additional injuries occurred and appreciate the patience of residents while we work to make the area safe again,” a MidAmerican spokesperson said.
Investigation Continues
The Sioux City Police Department has launched a full investigation into the crash. While speed has been identified as a primary factor, authorities have not ruled out other potential causes such as impaired or distracted driving. Crash reconstruction experts have been called in to assist with the case.
Police are urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash or seen the SUV traveling prior to the incident to come forward. Those with security or dash cam footage in the area during the early morning hours of April 19 are also encouraged to contact investigators.
Community in Mourning
The city of Norfolk is mourning the loss of two of its residents as friends and family await official identification and memorial details. Community members have expressed heartbreak over the tragedy and voiced concerns about the ongoing dangers posed by speeding on residential roads.
