MEMPHIS, Tenn. (April 20, 2025) — A man is fighting for his life after being critically injured in a shooting Saturday night at a Circle K gas station in East Memphis, according to the Memphis Police Department (MPD). The incident has shocked local residents and raised new concerns about safety in public spaces.
Shooting at Highland Street Gas Station
The violent encounter unfolded at approximately 10:20 p.m. at the Circle K located on Highland Street, a well-traveled area in East Memphis. Officers responded swiftly to the scene after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire. When they arrived, they found the victim lying on the ground near his vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound, police said.
First responders provided emergency aid before the man was rushed to Regional One Health in critical condition. His identity has not yet been released, pending notification of family.

According to MPD, a witness at the scene recounted seeing a vehicle speed past her near the gas station moments before the gunshots rang out. She reported seeing two shots fired from the vehicle. After noticing the man lying on the pavement, she turned around and tried to render aid until officers arrived.
Police later reviewed surveillance video from the Circle K, which revealed the victim had been walking to his car to pump gas when the shooting occurred. Investigators said the shooter was positioned in the passenger seat of a stolen vehicle, and after firing the shots, the car sped away from the scene, evading capture.

The vehicle involved in the shooting has been reported as stolen, and police are currently working to track it down. The suspect — believed to be armed and dangerous — remains at large.
