Community Mourns Loss of Cody Long, 33, in Jefferson Township Motorcycle Crash

 

The tight-knit community of Berks County is reeling after the heartbreaking loss of Cody Long, a beloved 33-year-old motorcyclist whose life was tragically cut short following a devastating crash in Jefferson Township.

A Tragic Accident

On the night of April 14, 2025, at approximately 11:40 p.m., Cody was riding his motorcycle westbound on New Schaefferstown Road, navigating a left curve uphill. According to the Pennsylvania State Police, he lost control of the motorcycle, which veered off the right shoulder and struck two small trees. After hitting the second tree, the bike rolled over, throwing Cody approximately 15 feet from where the motorcycle came to rest on the road. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Emergency responders transported him to Reading Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead on April 20, six days after the accident. The Berks County Coroner’s Office determined the cause of death to be traumatic brain injury due to blunt force trauma to the head, ruling the manner of death as accidental.
