Canton Woman Arrested for Allegedly Slamming 11-Year-Old Girl’s Head Against Slide and Telling Mother She Hopes the Child Dies

CANTON, Ohio (WOIO) – A deeply disturbing incident unfolded in Canton on Friday that resulted in the arrest of two women following a violent altercation at a neighborhood park involving an 11-year-old girl. The situation has left the community shaken after police reported that one of the women, 20-year-old Destany Scott, not only physically assaulted the child but also told the girl’s mother that she hoped the child would die.

Officers from the Canton Police Department were dispatched to the 1600 block of Clark Avenue SW shortly after receiving a call regarding an assault that had taken place in a nearby park. According to the police report, the altercation involved Scott and an 11-year-old girl, whose mother, Paige Dishong, was present during the incident.

Witnesses and the police report allege that Scott got into a heated argument with the child before things escalated dramatically. In a violent outburst, Scott allegedly grabbed the girl and “repeatedly slammed her head off the metal portion of a slide,” causing concern for serious injury. It is unclear what provoked the confrontation, but police say the attack appeared to be unprovoked and highly aggressive.

As responding officers arrived and took Scott into custody at the scene, the situation took another shocking turn. According to the police report, Scott turned to Dishong and coldly stated that she “hopes the 11-year-old dies.” The chilling statement led to an emotional reaction from the child’s mother.

Overcome with anger and grief, Dishong reportedly lunged at Scott, prompting officers to intervene. Dishong was subsequently arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and obstructing official business for her actions during the arrest. She is scheduled to appear in court for arraignment on May 2.

Scott, meanwhile, has been charged with assault and disorderly conduct and is expected to be arraigned on Tuesday at 9 a.m. at the Stark County Courthouse. She is currently being held in custody, and her mugshot was released by the Stark County Jail following her arrest.

Adding further weight to the case, police confirmed they have obtained video evidence of the alleged assault, which is expected to be a critical component of the prosecution’s case against Scott. The footage reportedly shows Scott attacking the young girl in the manner described by witnesses and the victim’s mother.

The condition of the 11-year-old girl has not been fully disclosed, but officials have stated that she was evaluated for injuries related to blunt force trauma. Her mother has not released a public statement, but a family friend told reporters the child is recovering at home and is being supported by relatives and counselors.

“This is just horrifying,” one neighbor said. “No one expects to take their child to the park and have them attacked like this. It’s every parent’s worst nightmare.”

The community, especially parents, have voiced concern about the safety of public parks and the apparent volatility of the suspect. Many are calling for a thorough investigation and for justice to be served swiftly.

Canton Police have assured the public that the matter is being taken seriously and emphasized that they are committed to ensuring the safety of children and families in the area.

As the legal proceedings unfold, the case continues to generate outrage across Stark County, where residents are demanding answers and accountability in what is being called one of the most disturbing assaults involving a child in recent memory.
