Tragedy in Drew, Mississippi: Mother and Two Daughters Killed in Triple Homicide, Suspect Dies by Suicide After Police Pursuit
DREW, MISSISSIPPI – In a devastating incident that has left an entire community in mourning, a mother and her two teenage daughters were killed in what authorities are describing as a triple homicide in the small city of Drew, located in Sunflower County, Mississippi. The victims were identified by the Sunflower County Coroner’s Office as Aquilla Wallace, 40, and her daughters Bromeshia Sims, 18, and Kamaya Sims, 19.
The horrific crime unfolded on Thursday, April 24, 2025, sending shockwaves through the tight-knit town and prompting an immediate and multi-agency manhunt for those believed to be responsible.
A Family Lost
According to investigators, the incident occurred at a residence in Drew, where all three women were found deceased from apparent gunshot wounds. Emergency services and law enforcement responded to the scene, but despite their efforts, the victims were pronounced dead shortly after discovery. The tragic loss of life has devastated friends, family members, and neighbors who described the three women as kind, loving, and deeply rooted in their community.
“They were good people. Aquilla was a devoted mother and her girls were just starting their lives,” said Monica James, a longtime friend of the family. “I can’t believe this happened. Our whole town is hurting.”
The Pursuit of Justice Turns Deadly
While crime scene investigators worked to gather evidence and determine the motive behind the killings, law enforcement received intelligence about the whereabouts of three suspects believed to be involved. The search led them to Rome, Mississippi, approximately 30 miles north of Drew, where a dramatic foot chase ensued.
According to officials, two of the suspects were apprehended without incident and taken into custody. However, the third suspect, whose identity has not yet been officially released, fled on foot and ultimately turned a firearm on himself during the pursuit.
Emergency personnel quickly responded, and the injured suspect was airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson in critical condition. Despite efforts by medical teams, the suspect succumbed to his self-inflicted injuries around 3 p.m. that same day.
Investigative Developments
The identities and charges related to the two surviving suspects have not yet been disclosed, but the Sunflower County Sheriff’s Office, in coordination with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation (MBI) and local police, are continuing to piece together the events that led to the fatal shooting of the three family members.
Authorities have not yet confirmed a motive, but sources close to the investigation suggest that the crime may have stemmed from a personal dispute. Investigators are currently conducting interviews, reviewing forensic evidence, and examining possible links between the victims and the suspects.
“We are working diligently to understand what happened and why,” said Sheriff James Haynes in a brief press conference. “This is a heartbreaking case. We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the victims.”
A Community in Mourning
As news of the triple homicide spread throughout Sunflower County, community leaders and residents gathered to support one another in the face of unimaginable loss. Local churches opened their doors for prayer services and grief counseling. Candles, flowers, and handwritten messages were placed in front of the family’s home as a memorial.
“Aquilla was a woman of faith and strength. Her daughters were bright, beautiful, and full of promise,” said Reverend Carl McNeal of Greater New Zion Baptist Church. “This tragedy reminds us of the fragility of life and the importance of coming together in the face of darkness.”
The Drew School District also issued a statement mourning the loss of Bromeshia and Kamaya, both former students who were remembered as intelligent, driven, and kind-hearted.
Moving Forward
The deaths of Aquilla Wallace, Bromeshia Sims, and Kamaya Sims have not only devastated their family but have left a lasting scar on the entire town of Drew. As the investigation progresses, residents are calling for justice, healing, and a renewed focus on preventing violence in their communities.
“The pain we’re feeling today is immeasurable,” said Mayor Sarah Tillman. “But we are united in our grief and our determination to ensure that justice is served for this family. We won’t rest until we have answers.”
Counseling services have been made available to students and community members, and local leaders are encouraging anyone with additional information about the incident to come forward.
As of now, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is leading the case and expects to release further updates in the coming days.
