Shreveport Tragedy: 26-Year-Old Demuntae Bell Fatally Struck on I-49 After Leaving Disabled Vehicle

Shreveport, LA — A devastating accident late Friday night has claimed the life of 26-year-old Demuntae Bell, after he was fatally struck by another vehicle on Interstate 49 northbound near Kings Highway. The fatal collision occurred at approximately 8:46 p.m. on April 25, 2025, and has since left the community in mourning and sparked renewed concerns over highway safety and stranded motorist protocols.

According to the Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office, Bell had reportedly exited his disabled vehicle, which had become immobilized on the interstate under still-unclear circumstances. It was in the process of either seeking help or potentially attempting to assess the vehicle’s condition that Bell was tragically struck by an oncoming vehicle. Emergency responders quickly arrived on the scene and transported Bell to Ochsner LSU Health hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries at 9:50 p.m.

The coroner’s office confirmed Bell’s identity through fingerprint comparison, and a preliminary report was issued shortly after. His next of kin has been notified, and arrangements are now underway to honor the life of a young man whose sudden passing has shaken family, friends, and the broader Shreveport community.

Described by those close to him as a hardworking, kind-hearted individual, Demuntae Bell was known for his dedication to family and his willingness to help others. A native of the Shreveport area, he had built a life rooted in strong values, personal growth, and community connections. He had dreams, aspirations, and a future tragically cut short in a matter of seconds.

While the driver of the vehicle that struck Bell has not yet been publicly identified, authorities have stated that the individual remained at the scene and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation. No charges have been filed at this time. The Shreveport Police Department Crash Unit is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision, including visibility conditions, speed, and whether roadside assistance had been requested or attempted.

As details continue to emerge, the accident has reignited local conversations about the dangers faced by motorists whose vehicles become disabled on busy highways, especially after dark. Experts urge drivers to remain inside their vehicles when possible, turn on hazard lights, and call 911 or roadside assistance for help. Still, every situation is different, and tragedies like Bell’s underscore the unpredictability and risk that can accompany even routine travel.

In the wake of Bell’s death, support has begun to pour in for his family. Friends and community members have expressed their sorrow through social media tributes, vigils, and offers of assistance. “Demuntae was full of life,” one friend wrote. “He had a gentle spirit and a contagious smile. This is a loss that is hard to even put into words.”

His family, while overwhelmed with grief, is asking for privacy during this time as they make preparations to say goodbye to their beloved son, brother, and friend. A public memorial is expected to be announced in the coming days.

The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office and the Shreveport Police Department continue to coordinate efforts in the investigation. Any witnesses to the incident or those with relevant information are encouraged to contact the Shreveport PD Crash Unit directly.

As Shreveport continues to process this tragedy, the community remembers Demuntae Bell not just for the way his life ended, but for the way he lived—with purpose, with kindness, and with a heart full of love for those around him.
