A West Plains man sustained serious injuries Tuesday afternoon in a head-on collision involving a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle on South Highway 63, near Dairy Queen and the Phillips 66 gas station.

 

 

West Plains, MO – May 1, 2025

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol and reports from Ozark Radio News, 49-year-old Leland Collins of West Plains was riding his 2005 Yamaha V-Star 650 motorcycle southbound on Highway 63 around noon when a northbound vehicle turned directly into his path.

The vehicle, a 2018 Toyota CHR driven by 60-year-old Anne Davies of Elk Creek, attempted to make a left turn into the Phillips 66 gas station and failed to yield, resulting in a violent head-on collision with Collins’ motorcycle.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene and transported Collins to Ozarks Healthcare in West Plains with serious injuries. No other injuries were reported. The incident caused significant traffic disruptions, with South Highway 63 reduced to one lane as authorities conducted their investigation and cleared the wreckage.

Law enforcement officials continue to investigate the crash, and it has not yet been confirmed if any charges or citations will be issued.

Motorists in the area were advised to use caution and expect delays as cleanup and further review of the incident continued throughout the afternoon.
