Baton Rouge Man Arrested for Alleged Rape and Burglary While Out on Bond for Prior Domestic Abuse Case

BATON ROUGE, LA — Jacob Campbell, 31, was arrested on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, in connection with a violent assault on a woman inside her Baton Rouge apartment. He faces multiple charges, including second-degree rape, simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling, simple criminal damage to property, resisting an officer, and unauthorized use of a movable.

According to the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred early Wednesday morning on Hanks Drive. The victim reported that Campbell entered her apartment, which had been left unlocked by a roommate, and attempted to force himself onto her. He allegedly threatened to punch her and kill her if she told anyone. Campbell was located in another apartment and arrested. During an interview, he initially acknowledged an “incident” had occurred but refused to elaborate. When he requested an attorney, investigators ceased questioning and informed him of his arrest. He then reportedly banged his head against the wall in the interview room. He also banged his head against the window in a patrol car when he was put inside.

At the time of the alleged assault, Campbell was out on bond from a previous arrest on February 25, 2025, for domestic battery on a pregnant woman. He had been released on a $7,500 bond on February 27, and the district attorney’s office formally charged him on April 10.

Following his latest arrest, a judge in the domestic abuse case blocked his potential release. Campbell is currently held at the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

The case has raised concerns about the effectiveness of the bail system and the monitoring of individuals charged with violent offenses. Authorities continue to investigate the incident and urge anyone with additional information to contact the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office.
