Deadly Shooting Outside Eastpointe Foot Locker Leaves Two Dead and Two Injured After Violent Confrontation Between Rival Groups in Busy Shopping Plaza
Eastpointe, Mich. — A violent confrontation outside a busy Foot Locker store turned deadly Saturday afternoon, leaving two people dead and two others wounded in a chaotic shooting that has stunned the Eastpointe community and left authorities searching for answers.
The shooting took place just after 3:00 p.m. in the parking lot of the Foot Locker near the intersection of 8 Mile Road and Kelly Road, a heavily trafficked commercial area often frequented by families and shoppers on weekends.
According to the Eastpointe Police Department, the violence stemmed from an altercation between two groups of individuals that quickly spiraled out of control, culminating in a quadruple shooting.
Altercation Turns Violent in Seconds
Authorities say the incident began as a verbal dispute. As tensions escalated, one individual reportedly pulled out a firearm and began pistol-whipping another person, causing the weapon to break during the assault. Moments later, a woman at the scene retrieved a second firearm from the trunk of a nearby vehicle and opened fire, striking four individuals.
Two of the shooting victims were pronounced dead at the scene. One victim, who was shot in the face, was found conscious and alert and was transported to a local hospital. The other two victims were also hospitalized and are said to be in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
One of the individuals involved allegedly grabbed the broken firearm used in the initial assault and fled the scene before officers arrived.
Chaos Caught on Camera
Graphic video footage, captured by witnesses and circulated on social media, shows the aftermath of the shooting. Three victims can be seen lying on the ground, surrounded by bystanders attempting to assist them as emergency services were called.
Detective Lieutenant Alexander Holish of the Eastpointe Police Department stated during a press briefing:
“This was a horrific and chaotic event that unfolded in broad daylight. We are very fortunate that no bullets entered the store, where employees and customers could have easily become victims.”
Holish added that the store was placed on temporary lockdown during the investigation, and surrounding businesses were advised to remain cautious.
No Arrests Yet, Identities Withheld
As of Saturday evening, no arrests had been made in connection with the shooting. Police have not released the names of the deceased or injured victims, citing the need to notify families.
Investigators are actively reviewing surveillance footage from surrounding businesses and collecting eyewitness accounts. Authorities believe they have identified several individuals involved but are still working to verify details and locate key suspects.
Despite the severity of the incident, police officials reassured the public that there is no ongoing threat at this time.
Community Reeling, Police Urge Cooperation
The shooting has left the Eastpointe community in shock, particularly given the high-traffic location and the time of day the violence occurred.
“This is something you never want to see in your neighborhood—especially at a place where families shop,” said one eyewitness, who asked not to be named. “It happened so fast, and then people were running and screaming.”
Police are urging anyone who witnessed the altercation or has information—especially video footage or photos taken during or after the incident—to come forward.
