At Least 7 Shot, One Critically Injured in Mass Shooting Outside Popular Midtown Bar in Oklahoma City; Police Searching for Suspect as Investigation Unfolds

 Updated: May 6, 2025

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — A violent outbreak of gunfire shattered the calm of a spring evening in Midtown Oklahoma City on Monday, May 5, 2025, leaving at least seven people wounded — one critically — in a mass shooting outside a popular local establishment.

According to the Oklahoma City Police Department (OCPD), officers were dispatched to The Collective, a well-known food hall and bar located at the intersection of Northwest 10th Street and North Hudson Avenue, shortly after 11:00 p.m. following numerous 911 calls reporting shots fired.

Upon arrival, first responders encountered a chaotic scene: panicked crowds, multiple gunshot victims, and blood-stained pavement in front of the establishment. Several victims were treated at the scene by EMSA paramedics, while others were rushed to nearby hospitals, including OU Medical Center and Integris Baptist Medical Center. At least one individual is reported to be in critical condition.

Victims Rushed to Hospitals as Panic Grips the Area

Authorities have confirmed that at least seven people suffered gunshot wounds in the attack. The precise number of injured may change, police cautioned, as some victims may have transported themselves or gone unreported in the immediate aftermath.

Witnesses described a scene of confusion and terror as the sound of gunfire pierced the night. “We were just enjoying the evening when we heard loud pops,” said Jasmine Taylor, 28, who had been dining on the rooftop terrace of The Collective. “At first we thought it was fireworks, but then people started screaming and running.”

Bystanders and bar staff assisted in helping victims until emergency responders arrived. Some patrons took cover under tables or behind cars parked along the street.

Police Presence Locks Down the Scene

As of early Tuesday morning, the area surrounding The Collective remains cordoned off with crime scene tape as investigators process the scene. Numerous shell casings were recovered, and officers are working to identify the exact number of shooters and what type of firearms were used.

No arrests have been made, and no suspects have been publicly identified. OCPD has not released any information suggesting whether the shooting was random, retaliatory, or gang-related. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses and are conducting interviews with witnesses in hopes of piecing together what led up to the gunfire.

“We are in the very early stages of this investigation,” said Capt. Valerie White of the OCPD. “Our detectives are working diligently to gather evidence, speak with those who were present, and determine the facts of what happened here tonight. This remains an active and fluid situation.”

Community on Edge, Authorities Seek Help

City officials and local leaders have expressed concern over the incident, which is one of the most significant shootings in Oklahoma City in recent months. The Midtown area, known for its trendy restaurants, nightspots, and walkable layout, is typically regarded as a safe and vibrant destination for locals and tourists alike.

Mayor David Holt issued a statement early Tuesday, saying, “Our hearts go out to those injured in this senseless act of violence. I’ve spoken with our police leadership and offered all support needed as they pursue justice for the victims. Midtown is the heart of our city, and we will not allow this to become the norm.”

The Oklahoma City Police Department is urging anyone who may have information about the shooting — including video recordings, photos, or first-hand accounts — to contact Crime Stoppers at (405) 235-7300 or submit a tip anonymously online.

Officials have emphasized the importance of public cooperation in solving the case and are asking anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward, no matter how insignificant they believe their information might be.

A City in Shock

As investigators continue working through the night and into the following day, the incident has prompted renewed discussions about safety, nightlife, and community resilience. Social media has been flooded with messages of support for the victims and calls for justice.

“We are shocked and heartbroken,” said Lindsey Rowe, a local resident who frequents The Collective. “This is not who we are as a city. We need to come together to support the victims and demand accountability.”

More updates are expected as the investigation progresses. A press briefing from OCPD is anticipated later today.

This is a developing story. Stay tuned for the latest updates as new information becomes available.
