BREAKING: Alexandria Man Marvin Humphrey Arrested After Broad-Daylight Shooting on MacArthur Drive — Victim Hospitalized as Police Investigate Shocking Attack

ALEXANDRIA, La. (May 8, 2025) — A man is behind bars after a broad-daylight shooting sent one person to the hospital Tuesday afternoon in Alexandria, prompting a quick response by local authorities and a renewed focus on public safety.

The incident occurred around 1:45 p.m. on May 7 in the 1000 block of MacArthur Drive, a busy stretch of roadway lined with businesses and frequented by commuters and pedestrians. According to the Alexandria Police Department (APD), officers responded to reports of a shooting and found one victim at the scene suffering from a gunshot wound.

Police confirmed that the victim’s injuries were non-life-threatening, and the individual was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their condition has since stabilized, and they are expected to make a full recovery.

Shortly after the incident, investigators identified the suspected shooter as 30-year-old Marvin Humphrey. He was arrested and charged with:

  • Aggravated second-degree battery
  • Possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number

Humphrey was booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center, where he remains in custody pending further legal proceedings.

Investigation Continues

While authorities have not yet revealed a motive for the shooting, the ongoing investigation is focused on determining the sequence of events that led up to the gunfire. Detectives are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses and conducting interviews with witnesses who were present at the time of the shooting.

Police have not disclosed whether Humphrey and the victim knew each other, or if the shooting was a targeted act or the result of a spontaneous altercation. Officials have also not released the name of the victim, citing privacy and the early stage of the investigation.

Community Concerns and Call for Assistance

The incident has rattled members of the Alexandria community, particularly given its location and timing. MacArthur Drive is one of the city’s busiest commercial corridors, and the mid-afternoon shooting has prompted calls for increased law enforcement visibility and measures to curb gun violence.

The Alexandria Police Department is urging anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or has additional information to come forward. Tips can be submitted to APD or anonymously through Crime Stoppers of Central Louisiana.

As the investigation continues, authorities are working to piece together what transpired and ensure justice is served.

For now, the arrest of Marvin Humphrey provides some measure of resolution to a disturbing incident that could have ended far worse — and serves as a reminder of the challenges law enforcement faces in keeping the community safe.
