BREAKING: Manhunt Underway After Daquan Wilson Gunned Down Near Montgomery Gas Station at Dawn

Montgomery, AL — A deadly shooting early Thursday morning near a Chevron gas station in Montgomery has left a community reeling, as police continue to search for the suspect responsible. Authorities are now urging the public to assist in identifying the shooter, who remains at large.

The incident occurred around 5:00 a.m. on May 8, when Montgomery police and fire medics were dispatched to the 5700 block of Atlanta Highway, following a report of a person being shot. The scene unfolded in the early hours of the day near a heavily frequented area known for its commercial activity and traffic, just yards away from the Chevron gas station.

When first responders arrived, they found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite efforts to provide aid, Lt. David Wise confirmed that the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim has since been identified as Daquan Wilson, a young man whose death marks yet another grim chapter in the city’s growing concerns over gun violence.

Description of the Suspect

Authorities have released a detailed description of the suspect, who was seen fleeing the area shortly after the shooting. The individual is described as wearing:

  • Black pants with white graphic designs
  • A black button-down shirt
  • A light blue shirt with graphics
  • Blue gloves
  • A Nike ski mask

Investigators believe the suspect may have been familiar with the area or had prior knowledge of the victim’s whereabouts, though a motive has not yet been publicly disclosed. Detectives are combing through surveillance footage from nearby businesses and gas station cameras in hopes of piecing together the moments leading up to the fatal shooting.

A Plea to the Public

Law enforcement is turning to the community for help. Montgomery Police Department, alongside Central Alabama Crime Stoppers, is requesting anyone with information regarding the shooting or the identity of the suspect to come forward.

“Someone out there knows who this individual is. We’re urging them to do the right thing and help us get justice for Daquan Wilson,” said Lt. Wise during a press briefing Thursday afternoon.

Community Reaction and Ongoing Investigation

The killing has sent shockwaves through the Montgomery community, particularly among residents and business owners in the Atlanta Highway corridor. Several locals expressed concern over the rising number of violent crimes in what was once considered a relatively peaceful part of town.

“This used to be a place where people felt safe stopping for gas or coffee before work,” said Tanya Henderson, a nearby resident. “Now we’re waking up to crime scenes and yellow tape.”

Authorities have not yet indicated whether the shooting was targeted or random, but they are treating the case with urgency, given the suspect remains unidentified and potentially dangerous.

The Montgomery Police Department says it will continue to maintain a heightened presence in the area in the coming days, both to reassure the public and to canvass for additional leads.

As the investigation unfolds, the family and friends of Daquan Wilson are left mourning a life taken too soon. Community leaders are calling for solidarity and cooperation to bring the perpetrator to justice and prevent further bloodshed in Montgomery.

Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
