Gunfire in Northwest Baltimore: Police Release Photo, Urge Community Help
BALTIMORE, MD (May 2025) — Detectives with the Baltimore Police Department’s Northwest District are actively investigating a recent shooting and are asking for the community’s assistance in identifying a person of interest who may hold critical information related to the case.
The incident occurred earlier this month in the Northwest area of Baltimore, a neighborhood that has seen a troubling uptick in gun violence in recent years. Although specific details about the shooting—such as the exact date, time, and location—have not been disclosed due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, police say the shooting resulted in at least one individual being seriously injured.
Authorities have released a surveillance image of the person of interest, captured near the scene around the time of the incident. The image, obtained from nearby security footage, shows a young adult male wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and jeans. While police have not formally named the individual as a suspect, they believe he may possess information that is vital to understanding the events that led to the shooting.
“We are urging anyone who recognizes this individual or has any knowledge about the shooting to come forward,” said Detective Charles Givens of the Northwest District. “Even the smallest detail could prove instrumental in helping us move this case forward and ensure justice is served.”
The shooting is the latest in a series of violent events that have rocked Northwest Baltimore in recent months, putting additional pressure on local law enforcement to bring those responsible to justice. Community leaders are also calling for increased cooperation between residents and police to break the cycle of violence that has long plagued parts of the city.
“We’re tired of seeing our young people caught in the crossfire,” said Tanya Reed, a longtime resident and activist in the Park Heights area. “We need to come together—not just to mourn after something happens, but to prevent these tragedies in the first place. That starts with trust, communication, and accountability on both sides.”
According to data from the Baltimore Police Department, the city has already seen a double-digit increase in non-fatal shootings compared to the same period last year. In response, the department has launched several initiatives aimed at improving response times, deploying more patrol units in high-crime areas, and working closely with community organizations to provide outreach and resources.
For this particular case, detectives are following multiple leads but stress that public cooperation is essential. Tipsters can remain anonymous, and all information—no matter how seemingly insignificant—is welcomed.
The person of interest is described as an African American male, believed to be in his late teens to early twenties, with a slim build. At the time of the incident, he was last seen heading eastbound on foot from the scene.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Northwest District Detective Unit directly at (410) 396-2466. Those who wish to remain anonymous can also call the Metro Crime Stoppers tip line at 1-866-7LOCKUP or submit tips online at www.metrocrimestoppers.org.
As investigators continue to pursue leads, residents are reminded to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. The Baltimore Police Department reaffirmed its commitment to reducing gun violence and ensuring the safety of all neighborhoods across the city.
“We won’t stop until we’ve found answers,” Detective Givens added. “But we need the public’s help to get there.”
This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
