Eight Vehicles Involved in a Route 70 Accident in Lakewood, New Jersey, Today, March 7th | Several Injured

Head-on collision. Airport Road & Lakewood Route 70. There were numerous cars involved. When it collided head-on, the car was moving at about 70 mph, according to a witness. Medevac’s arrival at the airport. Three reported significant injuries. Be prepared for delays; use caution for a few hours!

Currently on the scene are eight vehicles, the OC Sheriffs Department, NJ DPW, SQUAD 52, Lakewood Police Department, and Engine 5.
Authorities verified Friday morning that Route 70 eastbound from New Hampshire Avenue to Airport Road was completely closed due to a tragic multi-vehicle incident involving at least eight cars.

When an automobile heading in the wrong direction collided with several other vehicles on State Highway 70 West at approximately 5:51 a.m., a fire was started. Arriving quickly at the chaotic scene, emergency personnel used specialist extrication tools to rescue a trapped person while firefighters attempted to limit the fire.

For immediate medical attention, one person with severe burns was transported via medevac to a neighboring hospital. Some people were also hurt, but they refused to receive treatment right away. One victim was initially listed as critically ill, but no additional information has been released on their health.

Authorities have not yet provided a date for the restoration of the impacted eastbound segment of Route 70, which has caused major travel difficulties. The reason for the wrong-way driving and the ensuing collisions is still being looked into.

It is recommended that drivers look for other routes while police clear the area and have traffic moving normally again. More information will be released as it becomes available.
