WICHITA, KS — A young woman lost her life in a fatal shooting that unfolded in the early hours of Sunday morning in central Wichita, prompting grief, unanswered questions, and a continuing police investigation.

According to the Wichita Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 700 block of South Laura Avenue at approximately 4:28 a.m. on May 25, 2025, after receiving reports of gunfire in the area. Upon arrival, first responders found 20-year-old Naomi Oglesby suffering from multiple life-threatening gunshot wounds.

Emergency medical services were immediately called to the scene, and Oglesby was rushed to a nearby hospital. Despite life-saving efforts, she was later pronounced deceased.

The suspect, identified as 19-year-old Matthew Wayne Criscenzo, was still at the scene when officers arrived. Authorities took Criscenzo into custody without incident.
