Deadly Shooting Shocks Newberry Neighborhood: One Man Killed, Suspect in Custody After Targeted Attack

 

 

 

NEWBERRY, Fla. — A fatal shooting in the Meadowbrooks neighborhood of Newberry on Sunday morning has left one man dead and another in custody, as authorities continue investigating what they are calling a targeted incident between individuals who knew each other.

Deputies with the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene just before noon after receiving reports of gunfire in the quiet residential area. Upon arrival, they discovered a man suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The name of the deceased has since been confirmed as Name Not Yet Officially Released by Authorities. Law enforcement officials have stated that the victim and the alleged shooter were acquainted, and that the act was not random.

Later that afternoon, after a focused investigation and search operation, deputies located and apprehended a male suspect believed to be responsible for the shooting. Authorities also confirmed the recovery of the firearm used in the incident.

“This was not a random shooting,” officials emphasized in a public statement. “The individuals involved knew each other, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.”

Residents of the Meadowbrooks community were shaken by the event, which disrupted the normally peaceful weekend atmosphere. Law enforcement officers remained on scene for several hours, interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence.
