Markie Noel Irvine Shipley and T.C. Irvine Survive Devastating Crash Near Gaffney: ‘Most Terrifying Experience of My Life
GAFFNEY, SOUTH CAROLINA – Two Gaffney residents, Markie Noel Irvine Shipley and T.C. Irvine, are recovering after surviving a serious vehicle crash that occurred early Saturday morning, May 31, near the intersection of Highway 11 and Asbury Road in Cherokee County.
The accident happened around 7:00 a.m., shaking the normally quiet weekend morning and prompting a rapid emergency response. While the couple’s vehicle was badly damaged in the collision, both individuals survived and are now recuperating at home — bruised, sore, and incredibly grateful.
“The Most Terrifying Experience of My Life”
Markie, who was driving at the time, later shared that the crash occurred when another vehicle ran a red light, giving her no time to stop.
“I’m still in shock… this was the most terrifying experience of my life,” she said in a public message. “We had a car run a red light and I couldn’t stop. T.C. was unconscious for a few seconds after the impact.”
The crash left both Markie and T.C. shaken, but emergency crews were on the scene quickly to provide medical attention and transport them to a nearby hospital.
Injuries and Recovery
Miraculously, both escaped with no broken bones. Markie sustained a head wound and was advised to get a staple, which she declined due to anticipated pain. She also suffered a sprained wrist, and both are dealing with sore muscles from the force of the collision.
“We’re both okay, but going to be super sore tomorrow,” Markie added. “I needed a staple in my head (which I refused because it would just make it hurt worse).”
She also took time to thank Caitlin, a friend who rushed to the hospital and drove them home.
“Thank you to Caitlin for rushing to the hospital to be with us and take us home,” Markie wrote.
Community Support and Relief
As news of the crash spread through Gaffney, an outpouring of support followed. Many in the community feared the worst when they first heard about the accident — but were relieved and thankful to learn that Markie and T.C. had survived.
Social media platforms were filled with prayers, comforting words, and encouragement.
“Thank God they’re okay. This could’ve been tragic,” one friend commented. “Sending love and healing to both of them.”
Concerns at a Busy Intersection
The crash occurred near Highway 11 and Asbury Road, just outside Gaffney’s city limits — an intersection known for its traffic flow and speed concerns. Saturday’s incident has reignited conversations about traffic enforcement, signal timing, and visibility in the area.
As of now, the South Carolina Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash. No official statement has been released regarding whether the other driver will face citations.
A Grateful Reflection
Though the day began like any other, it quickly turned into a life-changing event. For Markie and T.C., the experience is a stark reminder of how fast life can change — and how lucky they are to be alive.
“It could’ve been so much worse,” Markie reflected. “We’re just thankful to still be here.”
As they focus on healing, their story serves as both a warning to other drivers and a testament to the strength of love, faith, and community.
