Minneapolis Mass Shooting: Gunfire Showers Parkgoers, Four Seriously Wounded in Shocking Attack
MINNEAPOLIS, MN (June 1, 2025) — A peaceful Sunday evening turned into a nightmare when gunfire erupted at Boom Island Park in Northeast Minneapolis, leaving at least four people with serious injuries and sending shockwaves through the community.
Authorities and emergency personnel were dispatched just after 6:30 p.m. following multiple 911 calls reporting an ongoing shooting. Witnesses say the park, which was bustling with families, cyclists, and pedestrians enjoying the warm weather, suddenly became a scene of terror as more than 100 shots rang out.
Victims Critically Wounded Amid Chaos
According to preliminary details provided by first responders, a 20-year-old woman was discovered in cardiac arrest after sustaining a gunshot wound to the left side of her chest. Emergency medical crews immediately began performing CPR at the scene in a desperate attempt to revive her. Her condition remains critical and unknown at this hour.
A 23-year-old man also suffered life-threatening injuries after being struck in the right hip and right arm. Another victim, a 20-year-old male, was shot in both the neck and abdomen, raising further concerns about survivability. Additionally, a 25-year-old man reportedly suffered a gunshot wound to the chest.
At least five ambulance units responded to the park, working in tandem with Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) officers to triage victims and secure the area. All four confirmed victims were transported to nearby hospitals under emergency protocols.
Witnesses Describe Frightening Scene
Eyewitness accounts paint a picture of a horrifying and chaotic scene. “We heard what sounded like fireworks at first, but then it just kept going—nonstop, pop after pop,” said Latrice Daniels, who was walking with her two children when the shooting started. “People were screaming and running in every direction. I’ve never been so scared in my life.”
Many individuals scrambled for cover behind trees, park benches, and even under cars. Several described the sound of gunfire as “military-like,” consistent with the volume and intensity of over 100 rounds being discharged.
Investigation Underway – No Suspects Identified
As of late Sunday night, no suspects have been taken into custody. The MPD has cordoned off a large section of Boom Island Park, labeling it an active crime scene. Police tape stretches for blocks as forensic teams work under floodlights, collecting shell casings and searching for clues.
Investigators have yet to publicly identify a motive, but authorities say they are not ruling out any possibilities, including gang activity or a targeted attack involving multiple shooters. However, officials were clear that the investigation is still in its early stages.
“This is a deeply disturbing event for our city,” said Minneapolis Police spokesperson Sgt. Garrett Morlan during a late-evening press briefing. “We are doing everything in our power to identify those responsible and to bring justice to the victims and their families.”
Call for Public Assistance
Police are asking anyone who was at Boom Island Park between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to come forward, especially if they have video footage or witnessed suspicious activity prior to or during the shooting. Tips can be submitted anonymously via CrimeStoppers or by contacting the MPD tip line.
Authorities are also reviewing surveillance footage from nearby traffic cameras and businesses to aid in identifying suspects or vehicles that may have fled the scene.
Community Reaction and Response
City leaders, including Mayor Jacob Frey, issued statements late Sunday expressing solidarity with the victims and calling for calm and cooperation. “What happened tonight at Boom Island is heartbreaking. Our hearts go out to the victims and their families. We will not rest until those responsible are brought to justice,” Mayor Frey said.
Community advocates are also calling for increased safety measures and patrols in public parks, especially during high-traffic weekends. The shooting has reignited conversations around gun violence and public safety in Minneapolis, a city that has seen a rise in violent incidents in recent years.
A City on Edge
As night falls over Minneapolis, Boom Island Park—usually a hub for weekend gatherings and outdoor relaxation—remains cordoned off, marked by flashing red and blue lights, and silence interrupted only by the hum of police radios. Residents are left shaken, waiting anxiously for updates on the condition of the victims and word of any arrests.
This is a developing story. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
